Recently Awarded Grants


MIS participates in regional Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl in Greensboro, GA, Sat. Feb 7 (2) Georgia Association of Educators (GAE) and Georgia Library Media Association(GLMA) sponsor the annual state Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl. To participate in the Georgia Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl students must read the 2013-2014 Georgia Children’s Book Award Nominees. The book list is comprised of titles on the Georgia Book Awards Nominees list and titles on the Georgia Peach Teen Book Award Nominees list. Each school team will consist of five players and five alternates. The MIS student team will compete to test their knowledge of the selected books required by the Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl. 53 4th and 5th grade students with high CRCT scores in reading and ELA and high Lexile scores on the spring 2013 CRCT. Out of these students 10 have earned the privilege of being a part of the MIS Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl Team on Feb. 7, 2015, at district competition in Greensboro, GA.

The Candler County Education Foundation presented a check to Metter High School for the 2014-15 Science Olympiad. The Science Olympiad is a competitive program to enhance science education and interest in science. The funds will be used for materials and costs associated with attending a regional competition.

On November 12th, The Innovative Learning Center's corporate donors were invited for a tour and lunch. Donors enjoyed seeing the students working on projects, making the most of the new facility.

Meet "System Overload"! With the help of a Candler County Educational Foundation Grant they made their competition debut at the First Lego League Dublin Regional Qualifier in Dublin, Georgia in 2013. The team members made the video below as a way to thank the CCEF and all of its generous contributors.
The Candler County Education Foundation is proud of our education partners at the Prek-8 Education Complex.
The Candler County Foundation for Public Education has presented the Candler County Schools with a check for $5,000 for use at the new Innovation Center, located at the Pre-K through 8th-grade complex. “The grant funds awarded by the Foundation for Public Education in Candler County are greatly appreciated and will assist us in fulfilling our mission to have a flexible 21st Century learning space for students to engage in high rigor, high relevance projects based on diverse learning styles for those students who master standards early,” said Assistant Superintendent CaDeisha Cooper.
The Candler County Foundation for Public Education recently presented a check for $1500 to debate team coach Vic Fordham to help fund the start-up of a debate team at Metter High School. Proceeds will be used for travel expenses, team materials, event fees and judge expenses. They have a few home events and three Atlanta area events scheduled for the inaugural year.
